She loved to sew and her husband Chris, is a chef by trade. Chris is currently a Culinary Arts Instructor at a local Vocational School. Together, they make a great team. Murray Watson, Wood CarverMurray Watson, Winnipeg. At the market since 1993Murray Watson is a self-taught wood carver who’s career began as a hobby in 1988. He carves mostly in butternut and each carving is mounted on a piece of driftwood gathered from the banks or shores of Manitoba lakes and rivers. He won 1st Best of Show in 2002 at the Prairie Canada Carving Competition. You can also find his work at the Art Gallery at the Conservatory at Assiniboine Park. Murray sells many beautiful pieces including “Wood Spirits” that have a little story behind them…. “It is said that the forests will stand for as long as the Wood Spirit remains to keep order. If you are lucky enough to see one, health happiness and good fortune will be yours. Our flock of ewes is carefully selected to provide both premium quality market lambs and superior, award winning wool. By providing value added lamb and wool products direct to the customer, we are able to maintain our farm operation on a scale reminiscent of the original family farms of this area. Look for us at the market form Mid-August on. That’s when our spring born lamb is ready and by then the early mornings are cold enough that smart Manitobans are starting to think about wool for the upcoming fall and winter Products: leg of lamb, rack of lamb, loin chops, shoulder shops, de-boned shoulder roasts, pure lamb sausage, ground lamb and whole lambs (cut and wrapped) Wool products available include: mitts, slippers, hats, vests, jackets and parkas. His business name comes from the three Y’s in his last name! He has been creating his products for the past 10 years. He uses farm board/barn board to create his work. Essentially, he is recycling the old wood and making it into something new! He also travels to the Calgary Stampede, Kenora and Brandon to sell. His biggest seller is his birdhouse that looks like miniature outhouse with strips of newspaper as toilet paper! He has many unique pieces such as a candle holder made from the glass insulation from a hydro pole on top of a recycled twisted barb wire holder! He also does custom work, mainly for picture frames.
