Vendor Natalie Dueck Wins the Big Prize!

Clown Natalie Dueck is The Bread Lady, and she's just won The Great Manitoba Food Fight! The prize is $15,000 to support the development of her product. The winning entry: Chocolate Hemp Snackers. You can see a two part interview with Natalie on last week's City-TV Breakfast Television here and here.

Together Again ...

Most of our regular vendors are back again this year, but we have a few new full-time vendors to add to the roster. Most of them you'll recognize as vendors who were at the market for at least part of the season last year:

  • Kris Currie, The Sugar Cookie Shoppe with her beautifully decorated cookies.
  • Jeanne Berard with her Certified Organic Vegetables
  • Darryl Ouimet with his fresh-made lemonade
  • Haven Doherty, Our Farm with vegetables
  • Jake Goertzen with his elegant iron lawn ornaments
  • Jack Maendel with environmentally sustainable products made from recycled tires

Flooding and the Market

We've had many queries about how and if the flooding situation is affecting the market. The market site itself is inside the floodway, and is on high enough ground that it isn't threatened by the flooding. For some of our vegetable vendors, however, the flooding has certainly had an impact. We expect the early part of the season will be much like 2009; some of our vegetable vendors who are in parts of the province where the flooding has been minimal, especially those with greenhouses, will have their usual showing of early spring vegetables. Others will be starting their season at the market later in the spring, as their planting has been delayed by the spring flooding. At the market, we'll do our best to help those vendors. Those who wish to can bring signage for their booths that will explain that they've been affected by the flood, and will be at the market as soon as they manage. In the early part of this season, if you love those fresh Manitoba veggies, be sure to come early on market day.

Rain Boot Fun

Last year, we looked for your funkiest and most fun footwear on rainy days, and posted photos in our newsletter and on the website. We'll be keeping our eyes out for your best rain gear again this season, so be sure to bring us your best! Clown
